Consent is an important topic to learn about and there is always more to learn. We continue to define what consent means to us and each other. There are also a lot of different situations that have never really been modeled for people. The purpose of the Consent Made Simple series is to provide examples of positive examples of consent being properly observed from a variety of different situations and viewpoints. These scenarios apply to any person of any gender.
Episode 19
In Episode 19, we see someone ask a child for a hug. The kid, for whatever reason, isn’t feeling it and takes a step back. The parent explains that they are trying to teach their kid about consent by letting them make choices over when to offer affection.
It’s important that we start teaching kids about consent at a young age and reinforcing those messages with our actions. Letting kids choose when they offer affection sends them a powerful message. It teaches them that the word “no” has power.
